An Interview with Katie Alexander of the Bikini Hockey League

katie bhlIn May of 2012, Cary Eskridge announced he was starting a Bikini Hockey League. In July, I asked the question, “Who will come first, the NHL boys in gear or the BHL babes on blades?” The Bikini Hockey League released their teaser video in November, but the gals have yet to play an official game. Well, I guess the boys came first. Typical…

I wanted to get the 411 on the BHL, so I reached out to Katie Alexander. Miss Katie minds the net and social media for the league.

OET: First and foremost, thanks for the interview! Tell us a little about yourself… where are you from, and how did you got involved in the BHL?

KA: No problem. I’m from Murrieta, California. It’s actually a funny story about how I got involved. My friend saw they were looking for girls on Yahoo! for this new show, Bikini Hockey League, and told me to send in my photos. I kinda laughed it off because I have never played hockey, just loved the sport. And at that time, I had the hots for a certain player on the LA Kings so she told me if I wanted him to know who I was, I needed to be on the show. So I sent in photos and went through all the interviews and was chosen.

OET: Well, I have to ask…who was the player? Read more

Remember back in May when Cary Eskridge announced he was starting a Bikini Hockey League? If not, catch up here. After a surge of interest, the new ladies league faded away like the latest trend. The only press release on their website was dated May 2nd and Google news shows nothing much after Puck Daddy’s article on May 11th.

Now, the boys of the NHL and NHLPA continued their labor negotiations today. We all know Round One went to the suits, but we are waiting to hear the counter offer. Where’s Harvey Specter when you need him?

So, who will come first this fall…the boys in gear or the babes on blades? Give us your two cents. To entertain you in the meantime, here are the Bikini League prospects.

By the way, we opened our virtual doors one month ago today. The early support has been much appreciated. We have met a lot of cool people and have some exciting things coming down the pipes. Have a cold one with us tonight and give us a shout-out on Twitter and Facebook. Thanks!

NHL’s Most Thrilling Mind-Numbing Event of the Year

For fans, and certain blog writers, the NHL Entry Draft was simply dull this weekend. I mean no disrespect to the young, talented prospects of the 2012 NHL Draft, but watching the draft this year was like watching a study group cram for the SATs. Even Ryan Murray looked quite sullen as the second overall pick (Columbus Blue Jackets), but who can blame him. Of course, I’m mostly kidding here. These guys, along with their families, worked very hard for this day and I send my congratulations.

The news that earned the biggest reaction was Carolina’s trade with Pittsburgh to acquire Jordan Staal for Canes’ Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin, and the 8th overall pick. Check out this Puck Daddy article for a reaction recap from both fan bases. Day 2 of the draft saw Luke Schenn of the Leafs head to Philadelphia in exchange for James van Riemsdyk. The Edmonton Oilers snagged winger Nail Yakupov as the #1 pick to add to their amazing Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins winning draft picks. And there you have it…the most thrilling news from the two day event. Read more

Bikini Hockey League: Insult or Incentive?

If their poorly executed website is an indication of how successful this concept will be then this football lingerie spinoff will sink like the freak’in Titanic. This league will begin as a reality series show where the tryouts will be shown on TV. I’m all for bringing more attention to the sport, so I’m not too quick to dismiss it. However, I have some serious concerns.

In case you haven’t heard of this new hockey venture, here’s a summary from their recent press release: Read more
