We kicked off a social media series last week with the best tweeters from the Carolina Hurricanes. Today we hit the Western Conference and rank the St. Louis Blues. Here’s a refresher on the criteria:

  • The player must be listed on the official team website as having a Twitter account
  • The player must have seen ice time (NHL or the AHL affiliate) in the 2013 season
  • Judging Criteria: number of followers accounts for 40%, number of tweets accounts for 60%

Overall, the Twitter action of the Blues completely deflates the storm of the Hurricanes. This made us wonder how all the teams would look measured side-by-side. Perhaps we’ll save a NHL team social media scorecard for the finale.

NHL Player Twitter Scorecard: Carolina Hurricanes

twitter iconSocial media has significantly impacted the player-fan experience. Fans are now able to interact and keep tabs on their favorite players. So, what NHL players are really conquering on Twitter? We thought it would be fun to rank each player by team based on two simple criteria:

  1. Number of followers

For a player to qualify they have to be listed on the official team website as having an account and they must have seen ice time (NHL or the AHL affiliate) in the 2013 season. Read more

AHL forward, A.J. Jenks, had this tweet come across my Twitter timeline today:

You may think as owner one of these annoying hockey themed apparel stores that I would be offended.

Nah.

I think I was more offended to be in the same category as puck bunnies. Actually, I take that back as there are some pretty hilarious bunny tweeters out there. Moreover, it is impossible to be upset with Mr. Jenks. He plays for my favorite AHL team (Charlotte Checkers), hails from Detroit (my family’s hometown), and has some of the most amazing hair in the league. Read more

It was an emotional week in the Twitter world. Sorrowful posts poured out regarding the Colorado shooting. As you may know, the hockey world lost one of their own in Jessica Ghawi. She was aspiring sport writer and countless tweets were posted in her honor. You may read about Jessica’s tragic death from her brother here and from her peers here.

Hockey Week of Tweets

Just like a tasty tweet, this shirt was baked fresh for your pleasure. Available in mens crewneck and ladies v-neck.

If you are on Twitter, you quickly realize it can be cumbersome to get up with the rapid-fire timeline. If you are not on Twiiter, then you are most certainly missing out on some juicy tweets. Here are some of my favorite hockey tweets from this past week…

The ever-entertaining goalie, Bobby Goepfert, got married yesterday and his tweets before the ceremony were knne-slappers. Mr. Goepfert currently plays for the DEG Metro Stars in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
